Let’s have a look at II Kings 18:9 today and see how Hezekiah is going along, he has been on a bit of a roll recently!
II Kings 18:9 “In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it,”
Wow, a lot can change in one verse!
Assyria was the dominant world power of the time. It might be like the full aggressive military might of China or the USA arriving off the coast of Darwin for us today.
Hoshea’s time was coming to an end, in fact, the Northern Kingdom of Israel was going to be destroyed and all the people were taken into captivity. Assyria was a mighty force.
Samaria was the capital of the northern kingdom of Israel and bordered right onto Judah. Jerusalem was 56km from Samaria.
The good news at this point is that the Philistines have been completely subdued. There had been a moment in time, a God-given opportunity, and Hezekiah had recognised this and stepped in to deal with the long-running issue with the Philistines.
Bigger battles lay ahead now for Hezekiah and the people of Judah.
What is it in your life that maybe you think about and push the thought away? Maybe you have said to yourself – “I’ll deal with that later”. Maybe you have said that to yourself a few times now.
Is it a doctor’s appointment, the dentist, an issue with a relative, some learning you always wanted to do, a letter to write, or a business to start? It could be anything.
What if this is the time to deal with that? What if there are bigger battles ahead possibly, and getting these issues resolved now will position you for victory.
My prayer for you today is for wisdom and to recognize the whisper of God in your life, that you would be well-positioned each day for private and public victory.
Blessings
Allan
