II Kings 19:34 For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for the sake of my servant David.
In Psalm 84:11 we read “For the Lord is a sun and a shield;……”
In II Kings 19:33, we read that the enemy will not come before Jerusalem with a shield, and here in the very next verse, we see that God himself will shield Jerusalem.
So often in life, we need to remind ourselves that God is our shield. The Hebrew word is pronounced “magen” and means either a shield of oiled leather used for personal defense or a leader who protects with the figurative power of the scales of a leviathan {a mythological sea monster of chaos opposed to the true God).
While the enemy may work in rumours, myths, and guile, God works in truth, power, and majesty.
What challenges are you facing today – what part have you played in these? Let’s run to the altar, prostrate ourselves, and seek God, seek his presence, seek his response, seek his aid, and seek his face, for who he is, not just what he can do.
Prayer for us to pray together – Father God we reject all idolatry and futile distractions, we declare you as our Lord and saviour and we honour you with all we have, including our wealth. We confess our sins and ask for your forgiveness, we repent of our wickedness now. We run to you, in praise, worship, prayer, and petition. We desperately need your help. Amen
Principle of Change 74 – how we recognize God will dictate how we approach Him.
Strength – Restorative – do everything we can each day to see ourselves restored to God’s original plans for our life.
