II Kings 19:8 When the field commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.

Lachish was an impregnable city – in fact, its name means “impregnable”. It is situated on the coastal plains of Palestine – it was one of the strongest fortresses in all of Israel.

The king of Assyria had captured the strongest city in that location, and now was moving out to take the other cities one by one.

The enemy of our soul is looking for a toe-hold in your life, and once he has that he will keep pushing for a foothold, and finally a stronghold. He will come after the area you are the proudest of, and the area where you pride yourself on your strength. And from there, he will start to degrade your life, area by area. Marriages will come under pressure, finances will start to struggle, health will be impacted, and sleep will be lost.

Oh, but there is good news – the enemy has yet to encounter Hezekiah, where the clutter has been removed, humility reigns, and the way to worship is wide open.

For us this is true also, even in the midst of mistakes, sin, and waste, we can choose to turn to God with a repentant heart, clear out the clutter, and enter afresh into God’s presence. There we will experience his provision, his peace, his strength, and his hope – all enfolded in his love, for you.

Principle of Change 47 – we can always turn to God

Strength – Connectedness – as we connect our heart and mind to God we will bring everything into order in our lives and we will know the peace that reigns even in the storm.
