Today we will look at II Kings 18:12, “because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. They neither listened nor obeyed”.

If you are anything like me, when you read this, you feel like saying, “move along, nothing to see here, move along now!”

But I believe that as we study this and wait on God  – He will help us find encouragement here!

As I read this I ask myself, what has God called me to be and to do that maybe I am not paying attention to?

Should I be more generous, more patient, kind, gentle, or humble?

The answer is of course – yes, I should be. I should be becoming more like Jesus every day. I should be open to the convicting power of the Holy Spirit.

How?

I love Stephen Covey’s teaching on The Seven Habits. In the book, he talks about the journey from being dependant, to independence, and then to interdependence. I think that is the journey we are often on spiritually.

We start being dependant – desperate for God to move in our lives, and as he does we move into independence, thinking we can do this on our own. We become spiritual teenagers.

But, we soon realise we have drifted, and as we turn back to God, he adopts the Prodigal father’s position, running towards us, and showering us with love. We recognise that interdependence is the mature way – so now it becomes us, dependant on God.

The Israelites had chosen independence as their posture and were receiving the full reward.

What posture we will adopt today?

Principle 16 – interdependence is a sign of maturity

Strength – Connectedness: People exceptionally talented in the Connectedness theme have faith in the links among all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost everything has meaning.
