Prov 8:35 [ESV] For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favour from the lord.

I ask myself today, having read and considered this scripture, if I am as hungry for encounters with God as perhaps I could or should be. Have I sanitised my Christianity into good-works and great habits? Perhaps today I will make some space to simply seek God for who he is (not so much for what he does hey?). Maybe, just to sit in stillness and to wait on Him, to listen for Him, and to listen with a heart ready to obey…

My challenge is that I love to be busy – not over-busy, but full on engaged in something meaningful, then time loses its focus and the day can go by so easily. And I know that is how God has designed me, and I love that. But…..maybe even in that I should be making time to just sit and seek God, just for my own personal devotion; not to share.

So, today, I will do that – even with everything else that is screaming out for attending and keeps telling me that it can’t wait till tomorrow, the one thing that really can’t wait till tomorrow is my own connection with my maker and the lover of my soul.

KNOWLEDGE

I love the thought that we totter into God’s presence, and of course I know that we are encouraged to walk boldly to the Throne of Grace [Heb 4:16 ESV]. But I wonder if even our boldest walk looks like tottering and stumbling against the backdrop of our incredible God.

It is actually God’s will that I encounter Him, it’s not something I am supposed to do unaided on my own.  It’s His grace that has opened up a way. It’s His will that we find it. It’s His power that sustains us. It’s His mercy that brings us through in the end.

It’s His feet that I want to sit at today.

UNDERSTANDING

Let’s pick one word from this verse to look closer at and see if that can help us gain a deeper insight into how God would love us to live?

The words used for “obtains” in Hebrew is pronounced as “puq” and carries the meaning “to stumble, to totter”. It is also translated as “providing, get, obtains, and pouring out”.

The LXX reads this verse as “For my issues [are the] issues of life, and [in them] [is prepared volition] from [the] Lord.

Let’s look at “volition” – θέλησις [thelesis]. This word appears once in the New Testament in Hebrews 2:4 [ESV] “while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miricles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will [θέλησιν].
