We are reading II Kings 18:3 “And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done”.

In II Chronicles 31:20 it is written about Hezekiah like this “Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah, and he did what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God”.

The writer of II Kings knows the story he is about to tell, but at this point, all we know is the parental lines and no details. So the writer puts us at ease and now we know the end before the beginning, we can relax as we read the story already knowing how Hezekiah will handle the massive pressures.

I love this thought, it reminds me that Jesus sees us as the finished work already, the end of our life is known to him before the beginning, regardless of what pressures there may be in our lives.

If God were to be writing the story of your life, he would tell of your parents and upbringing, and then he would write “ and you did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that Jesus his brother had done”.

He sees your life through the lens of his own son Jesus, who fulfilled the ancient laws on your behalf, who paid the full price of your sin with his sacrifice, his love for you held him on the cross.

Our response is a heart of gratitude and praise.

We can stop striving to be accepted, stop trying to hit some imaginary mark in our performance so that God will be happy with us.

We can relax, we know the end before the story of our life even unfolds.

Blessings
