II Kings 19:25 Have you not heard that I determined it long ago? I planned from days of old what I now bring to pass, that you should turn fortified cities into heaps of ruins,

Having heard the boasts of the Assyrians relayed by Isaiah’s prophetic response to Hezekiah’s prayer of faith, the voice changes and now we pick up on the start of God’s response.

Everything the Assyrians have is from God, all their success, all their influence, power, and wealth have come to them from God, the same God that they are right now speaking out against.

This is the moment in life that I hunger for, the voice of God. Even if it comes with a challenge or correction, it brings life to my soul. God is addressing the Assyrians here, first of all reminding them that all they have comes from Him.

It’s good for me to reflect on this, as how easily I start to see things as a result of my efforts, my intelligence, my wisdom, and my power. Yet, all of that, every part, is only possible because of God’s grace, and God’s provision. Without him, I don’t know where I would be right now.

I want to pause here for as long as it takes and reflect on this scripture, considering how this impacts me, my theology, and my knowing God. What about you, how do you read this?

Thankfulness is stirred in me alongside caution that I would start to boast in my own power, or even take for granted the blessings of God. I want to position myself at Jesus’ feet and stay there really. It’s my safe place, it’s my place of greatest power, and it’s my place of strength and comfort.

My prayer for us today is that we take time to thank God for all he has given us and to ask him how we can best use this to honour Him.

Principle of Change 65 – intentionally learn what it is to stay in a place of humility with God.

Strength – Learner – let your curiosity help you ask the right questions, from the right heart, at the right time.
