II Kings 19:1 As soon as King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.

In II Chronicles 29:3 right at the start of the story of Hezekiah there, we read “In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them.”

After years of Ahaz and wickedness, Hezekiah comes to the throne as a 25year old, and virtually the first thing he does is to re-establish the church as central to the kingdom. He makes it possible for everyone to reconnect with Yahweh.

As soon as Hezekiah hears of the trouble facing his people, his city and his future the first thing he does is head to the house of the Lord.

What great principles for our lives today. Are the doors of our hearts constantly open to whatever God wants to do in our lives?

When we hit trouble, what is our first reaction?

Hezekiah intentionally made sure his access to God was unobstructed, he understood who he was before God, regardless of his earthly position, and his first thought when trouble came knocking was to run to God. Beautiful! Just beautiful.

Principle of Change 41 – you prioritise your daily relationship with God.
