The Gallup Strength of Connectedness is all about the belief that there are few coincidences and that almost every event has a reason, suggesting an understanding of the larger picture and the interconnectedness of all things. This strength is beautifully illustrated in the lives of several biblical characters.

Joseph from the Old Testament is a prime example of the strength of Connectedness. Despite being sold into slavery by his brothers, unjustly imprisoned, and facing numerous adversities, Joseph maintained his faith in God’s overarching plan. In Genesis 50:20 (ESV), he tells his brothers, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” Joseph’s ability to see God’s hand at work in every situation, despite the difficulties, exemplifies the strength of Connectedness.

Esther also exhibits this strength remarkably. As a Jewish queen in a foreign land, she was placed in a position where she could save her people from destruction. Her cousin Mordecai recognized this divine orchestration, telling her in Esther 4:14 (ESV), “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther’s story highlights her role in God’s greater plan and her acceptance of the interconnectedness of her life events.

Ruth, the Moabite widow, portrays Connectedness through her loyalty and faith. Despite the tragedies she faced, she remained devoted to her mother-in-law, Naomi, and chose to follow her to Bethlehem. Ruth’s life demonstrates how individual decisions and relationships can be part of a larger, divine narrative. Her marriage to Boaz and their role in the lineage of King David and ultimately Jesus, as recounted in the book of Ruth, shows the intricate connections woven by God.

These biblical characters illustrate the strength of Connectedness through their faith, resilience, and recognition of a higher purpose at work in their lives. Their stories encourage believers to trust in the interconnectedness of their own experiences and God’s overarching plan.
