Prov 8:25 [ESV] Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth
Peace brings me joy. The one thing I value over any other thing in this world is peace. Peace in my spirit, my mind, my emotions and my body.
You might think critically of this as a bold statement. Why is it not God, or family, or love that you value Allan I hear you ask. Are you really who I thought you were, you ask next?
I hear those questions, as I have asked them of myself over the years, and yet always come back to “emotional and spiritual stability” as my number one core value.
When I am operating from a place of inner peace, I can serve God at my best, and I can be the right father, husband, and friend. I bring my best to God each day, and offer it willingly.
What are your top five core values, have you considered them deeply, brought the value out of them each day, so that others can enjoy the fruit of your life as well as you can? Do you know them well enough to describe their boundaries?
KNOWLEDGE – Even although as humans we can think of very little that is more permanent, or more majestic that the mountains, with their remote and alluring high places, they are brought into sharp context here.
Long before these amazing and inspiring creations were settled into place, before the largest or the smallest of them had any existence, was I am, was Jesus, was Holy Spirit.
The previous scripture spoke of the depths and of the waters, and now we turn to the much more tangible mountains and hills. Before any of it, Jesus was there, like a whirlwind, dancing among the creation.
UNDERSTANDING
Let’s pick one word from this verse to look closer at and see if that can help us gain a deeper insight into how God would love us to live?
The word for “shaped” in Hebrew is pronounced as “taba'” and carries the meaning “to sink down; to fall into; to be drowned; to be sunk or settled”.
In the LXX the word used is εδρασθήνα (edrasthena – the seating), and this word is ἑδραῖος (edraios) in the New Testament – meaning “steadfast”
WISDOM
What lessons have you learned in the past that you need to be remembering right now?
STRENGTHS THOUGHT: Context as a Gallup Strength enjoys thinking about the past and understands the current situations better because of that. Don’t fall into the trap of trying to re-live “the good old days”.
Allan’s Unauthorised Version – Before the mountain ranges had settled into place, and before the hilltops, I like a dance and a whirlwind, came forth.
Before the mountains – Before the mountain ranges
had been shaped – had settled into place
before the hills – before the hilltops
I was brought forth – I like a dance and a whirlwind came forth
PRAYER: Father, thank you for today. Help me to recognise your eternal nature and to come with gratitude and humility to your feet.
