Prov 8:21 [ESV] granting an inheritance to those who love me, and filling their treasuries.
In my life to date the greatest treasure God has imparted to me is people, friends, and family. I who came from such a broken family have been allowed to raise a family and care for them. I have been drawn into other families and become part of them, enjoying the fullness of blessing, of favour, of friendship, and of peace.
I have friends all over the world, with whom I have lived through the best of adventures, even when outcomes on the journey have had a mild sense of tragedy, or failure.
I am grateful to God for the way he has relentlessly pursued me and filled me with His love and His ways.
God, who in Jesus, drinks the cup I could never drink, and then fills my cup to overflowing.
Even now as I flick through mental pictures of the people with whom God has seen fit to connect me deeply, I have this overpowering gratitude for men who know how to love God, to love their families, and to love others, even as the world tries to tear them down, to distract them, and to disillusion them. Yet, they have stood, and they have ran the race.
Thank you Jesus. It’s my turn to be that man for others now, as best I can.
KNOWLEDGE – It is God’s desire to fill you – to satisfy you with every good thing, that you would live life overflowing from His goodness, His blessings, and His provision. It is the greatest love story ever told, that God would send his only son to die for my sins, and to then impart his goodness to me in exchange for these very sins. Who can even really fully understand this – but then understanding is not the same as receiving is it?
UNDERSTANDING
Let’s pick one word from this verse to look closer at and see if that can help us gain a deeper insight into how God would love us to live?
The word used for “filling” here is pronounced as “male” in Hebrew. It carries the meaning of “to fill up, to be full, to be ordained, fulfilled, satisfy, consecrate, to be set”.
In the LXX the Koine Greek is εμπλήσω [empleso] – to be filled up. And this word appears five times in the New testament, meaning filled, well fed, satisfied and enjoyed.
WISDOM
