θαυμάσια (thaumasia) wonders

θαυμάσιος [thaumasios} wonderful. admirable, – has one mention in the New Testament in Matt 21:15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful (θαυμάσιος) things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple “Hosanna to the Son of David” they were indignant,

We see in the Old Testament and the New Testament this aspect of wonder at God, both when he is in the Temple and when he is on earth as Jesus in human form. However, there is another aspect to this, a sense of being indignant. What goes in  my heart when God is showing his wonders through someone else, perhaps someone that I don’t hold in all that high of a regard? A bit like how the priests and scribes would view children at that time.

Reflections

4,000+ Looking At A World Of Wonder Stock Photos, Pictures ...

What causes me to “wonder” today? Do I still find wonder in God’s word, in his story. Is there a danger I have become familiar with the wonder of God and it no longer impacts me as it should? Have I become too analytical, too focused on learning the insights, rather than knowing the person? These are all questions that I need to bring to the surface regularly, so that I can conduct a radical self-audit on my spirituality. My prayer is “Oh Lord, please don’t let me lose the wonder of who you are, of how you speak to us, and what you still do today.”
