As we have been reading about Hezekiah over the last few weeks has God been revealing anything about his nature to you?

We will have a look at II Kings 18:6 this morning if that’s ok

II Kings 18:6 For he held fast to the Lord. He did not depart from following him but kept the commandments that the Lord had commanded Moses.

Twice we see the name Yahweh [Lord] used here, so the emphasis of this scripture leans towards an understanding that God is a personal promise-making and promise-keeping God.

Let’s also take a look at the words “held fast”, the Hebrew word is pronounced “dabaq” and this word appears 54 times in the Old Testament. It carries the meaning of clinging, cleaving, stuck together, and pressed hard together.

I think it’s good to pause and consider that this is Hezekiah’s minute by minute, daily relationship, that Hezekiah intentionally had with his personal covenant-keeping Lord.

There was significant evidence of this in Hezekiah’s life, as the writer (possibly Jeremiah) goes on to say that Hezekiah kept the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses.

In Exodus 19:5 we find a promise God made to Moses and the nation of Israel.

Exodus 19:5 Now, therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all people, for all the earth is mine.

What a beautiful promise for the young King Hezekiah to hold on to. After all his relationship was with a promise-keeping God.

Today we understand that there are at least 7487 promises made by God to humankind in the bible.

Which one’s are you and I holding fast with, and how does that work out in our lives each day?

Blessings
