Prov 8:31[ESV] rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.
I so love when we get together with good friends, usually around the table, sharing our lives, sharing our food, and telling our stories. We all talk at once and we all listen well. There is a joy in these moments that I have not ever found anywhere else. The community, the communion, the acceptance, love, and support – all flowing like the best wine ever, gladdens our hearts, fills our spirits, and brings a refreshing to our souls.
Make time and space in your world to surround yourself with people who bring joy and laughter, even in the toughest circumstances they help you laugh and love.
How much time do you spend in delight each day?
KNOWLEDGE – there can be no doubt that when God made the world it was an amazing and joyous time – there was so much space and room for celebration and for laughter. When Jesus comes to earth we see this hope being restored, and the same characteristic if joy makes a fresh appearance – not so much now for the condition of the world and humankind, but more for the saviour who has come to restore, to redeem, and to repurpose.
When Jesus comes back – yes there will be judgement and a time of accounting, but more than that, there will be a true restoration of joy.
UNDERSTANDING
Let’s pick one word from this verse to look closer at and see if that can help us gain a deeper insight into how God would love us to live?
The word used for “delighting” is pronounced as “sa’asu’iym” and carries the meaning – delight; pleasant; and darling.
The LXX reads as “[even] when he was pleased with the [the] inhabitable world completing and was pleased among [the] sons of man”. The word ενευφραίνετο [eneuphraineto] – “was pleased” – and appears fourteen times in the New Testament, carrying the meaning – to celebrate; to be merry; joyously living; rejoice, and gladden.
WISDOM
What is right in front of me today that I can take great joy in and bring my best to?
