Prov 8:10 [ESV] Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold.
I get up most mornings at between 4.30 and 5.30am, and start my routine. A litre of cold water with fresh lemon juice for my body. A time of prayer for my focus on my spirit and a time of study for my mind and soul.
Some light weight exercises and stretches for my strength and my flexibility. And then a shower and a tidy up. Follow this with a cup of sticky chai, and I slip into my seat to start my day – checking and grading emails, reminding myself of my goals and the mission critical things I need to focus on.
I want to honour God at the start of my day each day as much as I can, listening to his word and searching for his voice, before I go into the day ahead.
KNOWLEDGE – so often in life we are keen to chase after something that has what we think is “proven value” – we have analysed our needs and desires, we then approve ourselves to go on the chase to find and own this quality or quantity. Much of what we chase after has little if any eternal intrinsic value, and to be pointed, even its temporal value is questionable in relation how much time we trade in to have it. It’s so good to stop and reflect, to consider and meditate on what our top six goals are for our life and then align our time and talents in that direction. The reason I get up most every morning a read and study and write around Proverbs is because that is a core value for my own life, and I am grateful when or if I get to share this with others.

Let’s pick one word from this verse to look closer at and see if that can help us gain a deeper insight into how God would love us to live?
The LXX for Proverbs 8:10 reads as “receive instruction and not silver! And knowledge above tried gold. The word used for “tried” (or “choice” in Hebrew) – is δεδοκιμασμένον [dedokimasmevon] and we see the word δοκιμάζω [dokimaxo] as analyse; discern; prove; approve in the New testament.

What would an audit of my life reveal as my values?
STRENGTHS THOUGHT: Input as a Gallup Strength wants to gather valuable info and store it orderly ready to provide output that will bless others. Be careful not to gather for the sake of gathering, but to see the intrinsic value for self before others.
